Laura Bonsness
Laura BonsnessMPT, CMP, FMSc
Laura graduated from California State University, Fresno with a Master’s of Physical Therapy in 1994. She moved to Rapid City in 2001. Laura and her family enjoy the many activities found in God’s beautiful landscape in the great outdoors of the Black Hills.
Laura founded About You Physical Therapy on March 1, 2011. The inspiration for About You Physical Therapy brings together the best care available in physical therapy and combines it with the “About You” caring for the love of our neighbors with a mind, body, heart, and Spirit guidance.

Jesse Ham
Jesse HamPT, CMP, PRC
Jesse joined About You Physical Therapy in March of 2013. A native of Rapid City and graduate of Rapid City Central High School, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and his Master of Science degree in Physical Therapy from the University of South Dakota.
Jesse’s skill set is a product of training through the Postural Restoration Institute, Mulligan concept and with Selected Functional Movement Assessment, among other movement science perspectives.
Kari Anders
Kari AndersPT
Kari joined the AYPT team in July of 2021. She graduated from the University of Mary, with a Master’s degree of Physical Therapy. Kari has over fifteen years of experience as a PT in the Black Hills. During that time, she has been greatly influenced by further training from the Postural Restoration Institute (PRI). Other advanced training includes being a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and an Impact Trained Physical Therapist (ITPT) for concussion management. She has sought further education in the areas of SFMA and FMS, Parkinson’s Disease, and vestibular rehabilitation, among others.

When away from the clinic, Kari keeps busy critiquing Lego sculptures, interpreting child-size dinosaurs, teaching at a school of two and operating a small photography business.

Kari strives to continually learn, to better serve her patients, family, and community. She enjoys treating and interacting with patients of a variety of ages and diagnoses.

Sonya Anderson
Sonya AndersonPT
Sonya Anderson joined About You Physical Therapy in 2018. She earned her Bachelor’s in human biology at Chadron State College in 1994 and then went on to obtain her Master’s in physical therapy at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 1997.
Sonya has over 20 years of experience treating patients and her professional area of interest is the result of training through the Postural Restoration Institute. When not working she enjoys outdoor activities of golf, hiking, biking and working with her dogs.
Brad Beardt
Brad Beardt PT
Born and raised in Rapid City, Brad earned his bachelor’s degree in athletic training from South Dakota State University. Thereafter he returned to Rapid City to work as an Athletic Trainer while also completing his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification. After nine years working with local athletes, he decided to further his career at the University of Wyoming, earning a master’s degree in Kinesiology and Health with a focus in Biomechanics. He then went on to earn his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Briar Cliff University. Brad has a passion for helping others work, play, and perform better by maximizing human movement. With his background in athletics Brad has a passion for helping others perform at their best, whether it is everyday activities or high-level sports performance.
In his spare time Brad enjoys taking advantage of what the Black Hills have to offer including hiking, snowboarding, rock climbing and mountain biking. He particularly enjoys these activities with his wife and two children.
Matt Dormann
Matt DormannDPT, CSCS, FMSc
Matt Dormann is a Rapid City native and a graduate of Stevens High School. He attended the University of Sioux Falls where he played football and graduated with a Biology degree. Matt received his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2004. Matt became certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the NSCA in 2005. He returned to Rapid City in 2005 to become the owner of SOAR Physical Therapy. In 2015, SOAR Physical Therapy merged with About You Physical Therapy.
Matt’s clinical areas of interest include orthopedic and sports rehab, post-surgical rehab, and running injuries. He has specialized training in the areas of Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA), manual therapy, prevention and treatment of running injuries, golf fitness, and postural dysfunction and restoration. Matt is also certified in the Functional Movement Screen (FMSc).
Jed Mazion
Jed MazionPT, DPT, CSCS
Jed Mazion was born in the great state of Arizona. He attended undergraduate school at Arizona State University. During school, Jed studied independently to take and pass the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist examination (CSCS). After graduating from Arizona State, Jed decided to further his education by attending Physical Therapy school at the University of North Dakota. While enrolled in grad school, Jed was able to attend 75 hours of continuing education with a focus on Postural Restoration where he met Jesse Ham.
Both Jed and Jesse have a passion for Postural Restoration, which led to Jed joining the About You Physical Therapy team in 2017. In his free time, Jed enjoys continuing his education in all aspects of life, snowboarding, watching and officiating football, and spending time with his baby, Phoenix, and his girlfriend, Lindsey. Jed’s dream is to one day buy a sailboat and travel the globe, keeping the temperature at a constant 80 degrees.

Jamie McMurtrey

Jamie McMurtrey joined About You Physical Therapy in 2019. Jamie grew up in Rapid City and graduated from Rapid City Central High School. Becoming a physical therapist was her calling, that she felt as a junior in high school. She then spent 10 years in Arizona where she obtained her Bachelor of Science, and then obtained her Master of Physical Therapy from Northern Arizona University in 1995. She spent 20 years in Cheyenne, Wyoming before returning home to Rapid City 3 years ago. Jamie has 3 sons, Austin, Nathan and the youngest Joshua, and enjoys spending time with her family.
Jamie has over 20 years of experience and has been blessed to work with patients of all ages and a variety of needs and environments. Jamie’s clinical areas of interest include orthopedic and sports rehabilitation, and post-surgical rehabilitation.
Karen Schumacher
Karen Schumacher PT, FMSc, SFMAc
Karen joined About You Physical Therapy in 2013. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from the University of North Dakota in 1986.
She has specialized training in the areas of Parkinson’s Wellness Recovery, Postural Restoration (PRI), manual therapy for the spine and extremities, mobilization with movement, and myofascial release techniques. She has experience in osteoporosis prevention and management. Karen is a Certified Functional Movement Specialist for the Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) and the Functional Movement Screen (FMS).
Karen enjoys teaching people of all ages about the prevention and management of pain and she provides the tools needed for the restoration of proper movement patterns for daily living.
Katie Steever
Katie SteeverPT, MPT, FMSc, SFMAc
Katie joined About You Physical Therapy in 2011. Katie is not new to the Black Hills area as she attended South Dakota School of Mines and Technology for her undergraduate degree. Katie’s desire to become a physical therapist comes from an active lifestyle and personal experiences with physical therapy recovering from sports injuries in high school and college. Katie also has a deep passion for helping others in which she feels blessed to be able to apply these passions in her professional career. Katie and her husband are proud parents to Taylor, Leighton, and Cooper.
Katie’s clinical interests are movement screening and functional movement training, sports medicine rehabilitation for knee, shoulder, and ankle, post-surgical rehabilitation, Parkinson’s Wellness Recovery, neck and low back pain, and women’s health including pelvic pain, incontinence, and postpartum recovery.
